Why should Dirk have to take a back seat to Barkley on the all time PF's list when he shouldn't?

I agree with you. I don't see why Charles is put higher on the list. Dirk has better numbers and a better career resume. Let's be honest with ourselves. Charles would never have lead a team to beat Miami in the Finals.
