I have this ipod that my friend gave me but its saying ipod is disabled connect to itunes?

everytime I try to connect it to itunes its saying this. ITUNES COULD NOT CONNECT TO THE IPOD "MAURICE" BECAUSE IT IS LOCKED WITH A PASSCODE. YOU MUST ENTER YOUR PASSWORD ON THE IPOD BEFORE IT CAN BE USED WITH ITUES. There are to buttons that say "try again or cancel. PLEASE HELP ME
